iciHaiti - UNICEF : 2015 Report on the Millennium goals for children
In its 2015 report on the Millennium Development Goals, concerning children, UNICEF reveals that school attendance in Haiti increased from 50% in 2009 to 83% in 2012. It also shows that 80% newborns are now registered at birth. Beyond this progress, UNICEF stresses that major challenges remain for the country, particularly with respect to the rights of the smallest.

The UN agency also stressed that in Haiti, the mortality rate among children under 5 years is 88 per thousand; that 5% of children from 0 to 59 months are suffering from severe acute malnutrition and 23% of children under 5 suffer from growth retardation.

"UNICEF continues to play its role alongside the Haitian government in order to promote better conditions so that all the children of Haiti can flourish, especially those who are most vulnerable," said Marc Vincent, the Representative of UNICEF-Haiti, in a statement, saying that this report provides an indicator enabling to better position the action of the UN agency in the country.
