On Monday, the Bahamian authorities arrested 143 migrants from Haiti, on an overloaded sailboat, at the southern end of the archipelago. The Royal Bahamas Defense Force indicated that a patrol boat had stopped the boat to the west of Ragged Island. Among the migrants there were 23 women and 3 children. All were taken to a military base in Nassau for further investigation and action as specified by law. Recall that the Bahamas usually repatriates migrants who were arrested at sea.

The Royal Bahamas Defense Force indicates that 8 Cubans were also arrested last Wednesday off Grand Bahama and that more than 1,000 migrants had been arrested since the beginning of the year.
