iciHaiti - Economy : Launch of the UNIDO Mission
Monday at the National Palace, the de facto President of the Republic, Jocelerme Privert, chaired a meeting as part of the aunch of the Mission of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) who reside in Haiti until 22 September.

The activity was attended by several ministers including Jessy C. Petit-Frère (Commerce and Industry), Pierre Guiteau Laurore (Agriculture), Marie Denise Claude (Status of Women) and Carlos Chanduvi Suarez, Head of the sub-region of South America and the Caribbean of the UNIDO.

Agenda of the meeting :

Establishment of a strategic country program of the UNIDO to mobilize external partners and resources to enhance the impact of technical cooperation;

Strengthening of the Haitian Bureau of Standards of Haiti (BNH) implemented with technical and financial support of UNIDO. Recall that the BNH helps ensure that products and services meet minimum specifications and ensures the improvement of the competitiveness of domestic enterprises for their integration into the regional and international trade;

Strengthening of the metrology laboratory whose mission is to verify the calibration and / or adjustment of the measuring instruments used in trade and industry to ensure the certification and traceability of measuring instruments;

Development of an industrial policy and strengthening of industrial capacity in Haiti;

Establishment of Micros Industrial Parks that represent a catalyst for private investment and offer the possibility to associate the small suppliers or local businesses to large companies allowing them to access international sectors.

These points will be implemented by the arrival of a technical mission to Haiti, in October.
