iciHaiti - FLASH : The border blocked for a few hours
On Tuesday at the border of Jimani-Malpasse, demonstrators barricaded early in the morning, on the Haitian side, the exit of the border gate of Jimani with barricades and a truck. For nearly three hours, all commercial activities and traffic have been paralyzed, the Dominican trucks that transport goods to Haiti on a daily basis, have not been able to circulate, like the bus passengers who had to wait patiently for the reopening of the road.

This blockage follows an incident that occurred on April 20, when a Haitian carrier had his windscreen broken following a stones throw on the Dominican side. Not having obtained compensation for the damage caused to his truck, the carrier accompanied by a group of violent individuals, decided to show his anger.

Demonstrators and counter-demonstrators threw stones and bottles on both sides of the border, causing panic among the small shopkeepers who hurriedly left the place. The Dominican soldiers and the Haitian National Police had to intervene each on their side of the border todisperse the protesters with tear gas and clear the road to allow the normal resumption of border activities.
