At the opening of the Business Summit of the Haitian-American Chamber of Commerce of Florida, Lesly Condé, the Consul General of Haiti in Chicago in his speech declared :

"[...] At the outset, I would like to congratulate the Haitian American Chamber of Commerce for this judicious initiative which calls for the indispensable collaboration between the best Haitian talents of the diaspora and those of Haiti in order to take advantage of the countless opportunities offered by this beautiful country that has hitherto been largely unexplored. If this Haitian-American Summit of Business arouses so much enthusiasm in me, it is because I know that the Haitians everywhere are very attached to their native land. It is enough to observe the fidelity with which our compatriots from all corners of the diaspora support their loved ones who are all over Haiti to get an idea of the merits of the activity in which we participate today. Our diaspora is indeed, more than just a spare tire; It is this powerful auxiliary engine that has propelled us constantly for years. Haitians living abroad can and should participate in all aspects of the country's life and development. I am pleased to note that the initiative in which I am participating today encourages the participation of entrepreneurs of all ages and backgrounds. It also rightly regards our diaspora as an indispensable ally of the revitalization of tourism in Haiti. Our country is the tourist destination par excellence of the Caribbean region thanks to its history, its culture and its indestructible natural beauty.

Finally, as Head of Mission, I would like to underline the importance of the role that embassies and consulates will have to play in the context of this implication of the diaspora. While the local authorities work diligently to optimize the conditions, we all have a score to perform within this important symphony [...]"
