Haiti - Economy : New Director of the World Bank in Haiti
Monday Anabela Abreu took office as the new Country Director of the World Bank in Haiti. Of Portuguese origin, she is a doctor of training and has more than 20 years of experience in the field of development and public health in more than 15 countries of Latin America, Europe, Africa and Asia.

"Her priorities will be to continue implementing the World Bank's program in Haiti to support the country's efforts to reduce poverty, promote opportunities for all, generate jobs. She is also responsible for coordinating the Bank's efforts with those of the international community in support to the country," said Jorge Familiar, Vice-President of the World Bank for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Representing the World Bank in Panama until recently, Ms. Abreu also represented the institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Guatemala; led the Bank's Health Portfolio in South Asia as a Sectorial Director after working as a Senior Public Health Specialist in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The World Bank Group (WBG) in Haiti has 14 active projects, with commitments of US$869 million (September 2017), financed by the International Development Association (IDA) and various trust funds.
