iciHaiti - Estates General : First preparatory forum
The Steering Committee of the Sectoral Estates General of the Nation (EGSN) organized on May 16th at Saintard (Arcahaie commune), its first Preparatory Forum of Assizes which will be organized throughout the national territory.

The forum brought together representatives of local governments, members of various civil society organizations, regional journalists and religious leaders from the country's ten geographical departments. Representatives of the Presidency participated in this event alongside the Deputy of Archaie Pierre Féquière Julien, the Mayor of Arcahaie, Rose Milla Petit-Frère and members of the Steering Committee and the Technical Secretariat.

This forum began with an ecumenical ceremony chaired by Pastor Pauris Jean-Baptiste and Manbo Marie Carmelle Mentor. The members of the Steering Committee welcomed the symbolic aspect of this event which coincides with the 215th anniversary of the Congress of Arcahaie which led to the creation of the national bi-color on May 18, 1803. They took the opportunity to share with the audience the initiative of the Head of State to convene the EGSN and the methodology that will be used throughout the process. Mayor Petit-Frère stressed the need to bring together the different strata of Haitian society, whatever their differences, in order to give the country a new start.

In the discussions with the members of the Committee, delegates from all regions of the country spoke about the various problems that are particularly faced by rural areas. This forum, which is part of the preparatory phase of these Estates General, follows other meetings already organized by the Committee before the workshops planned throughout the country.
