iciHaiti - Economy : Reprint of 30 million of 10 Gourde Banknotes
Unlike foreign currency notes that Haitians treat with great care, the national currency is not respected, the notes are soiled, degraded, crumpled, or torn by the Haitian people, including that of 10 Gourdes (the one of the most abused). An uncivil behavior, which forces the Bank of Republic of Haiti (BRH) to replace them more often. These notes, which should normally last more than one year, have a life in Haiti reduced to more or less 6 months...

Also the BRH, due to a shortage of stock of new 10 Gourdes, has just placed an order for reprinting 30 million of 10 Gourdes notes to the French firm Oberthur Fiduciaire S.A.S. one of the first private fiduciary printers in the world in the manufacture of banknotes and related secure services, of which the BRH is already a client.

This over-the-counter contract for an amount of 845,000 Euros (± 78 million Gourdes) was authorized by the Superior Court of Accounts and Administrative Litigation (CSC/CA) and by the National Commission for Public Procurement (CNMP) end of February. Which means that each reprinted 10 Gourdes ticket costs the BRH ± 2.6 Gourdes because of the bad behavior and disrespect of the population towards our national currency.
