iciHaiti - Diaspora 216th : Message of the Consulate General of Haiti in Montreal
As part of the commemoration of the 216th anniversary of the Haitian Flag Day Géralde Alerte Carré, the Head of Mission of the Consulate General of Haiti in Montreal issued a message Saturday, May 18 at the premises of the Haitian Cultural Association "La Perle Retrouvée" in Montreal, message we invite you to read :

Message from the Consulate General of Haiti in Montreal :

"Honorable Members Federal and Provincial,
Ladies, Mayors and Municipal Councilors,
Ladies and Gentlemen, the members of the Board of Directors of the Perle Retrouvée,
Distinguished guests,
Dear compatriots and friends,

Every year, faithful to this historic meeting, the Consulate General of Haiti joins the Haitian community of the greater metropolitan area to celebrate, in the same patriotic spirit, the Haitian Flag Festival.

On May 18, 2019, in my capacity as head of post of this Consular Mission, in agreement with 'La Perle Retrouvée', I have the honor to make myself its spokesperson at the commemoration of the 216th anniversary of the creation of our two-color

Indeed, it is on this mythical date, May 18, 1803, that took place, in Arcahaie the solemn unveiling of the Dessalinian flag, emblematic symbol of the heroic indigenous army. The event was the defining phase of the bloody war of independence, which soon led to the humiliating defeat of the Napoleonic troops and, consequently, the birth of the first black republic : glorious epic, unique in the annals of the world.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Today, is it not urgent to ask ourselves the following question : What have we done with the sacred legacy bequeathed by our sublime go-barefoot from the hell of Santo Domingo ? I leave it to qualified historians and sociologists the privilege of evaluating on our behalf the progress made since then.

As far as I am concerned, in view of the multiplicity of challenges to be met, I can only hope, from the bottom of my heart, a patriotic surge from Haitians, whatever their political allegiances, for the sake of planned building of a modern Haiti, freed from its faults, more respectful of the laws and more aware of our delays in all the priority fields.

This is the wish that I form from the bottom of my heart for a better future in favor of the homeland..."
