iciHaiti - Justice : Lawyers says they are «specialists», without having certification
The judge of instruction, specialist in business law and professor at the State University of Haiti, Me Edume Ikenson, calls for the specialization of lawyers for the improvement of the Haitian judicial system ...

Edumé pleads for the awarding of specialization certificates to Haitian lawyers, in order to attest to the "specific" professional competence of any lawyer who intends to appear as a specialist in any field.

He recalls that in the absence of such a document, a lawyer who calls himself a specialist is an usurper or a liar stating "He is certainly a lawyer but he is not a [recognized] specialist" underlining that specialization implies that one is competent or has a specific know-how recognized in a particular field.

In addition, Me Edumé, made a distinction between "exercise a field of activity and be a specialist in a branch of this field" advocating a program of "continuing education, strengthened and the specialization of lawyers" within the bars. According to him, such a program will have very positive effects "it will not only strengthen the law school, contribute to the proper functioning of the judicial system but also protect the litigants" adding that "the specialization of legal professionals is today, in the very reason of its importance and usefulness, a necessity."
