iciHaiti - Agriculture : José Luis Fernández of FAO on tour in the Northeast
José Luis Fernández, the Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is on tour in Haiti from January 9 to 13 in the Northeast to inquire about development and recovery initiatives agriculture undertaken by FAO.

Fernández spoke with members of the Terrier Rouge Agricultural Cooperative, specializing in vegetable production, in the Commune of Terrier Rouge, on the revival of agricultural activities in response to drought.

He also met the Directors of the Communal Agricultural Offices Ronald Jean (of Terrier Rouge) and Frando Israël (Ferrier / Fort Liberté) on emergency actions and agricultural development carried out in their Commune.

He visited the hatchery built by the FAO and the Ministry of Agriculture, with funding from the European Union, and also met with aquaculturists operating fish farming. He also visited the Dairy of Ouanaminthe where he discussed the progress and challenges that it is experiencing in the process of processing and marketing dairy products.

Following recurrent floods in the irrigated perimeter of Bas Maribahoux (Commune of Ferrier), on the sidelines of agricultural road repair activities, he met the Planters of the Association of Planters and Breeders for the Development of Bas Maribahoux (APEDBAM).
