Beginning of the Zafra
Last Tuesday, Hébert Docteur, he Minister of Agriculture, went to the sugar factory of Darbonne (Léogâne) - for the beginning of the Zafra (harvest of sugar cane). The objective of the zafra this year is 60.000 metric tons of crushed sugar cane, producing 36.360 bags of sugar, 15.360 barrels of syrup et 165.000 kilowatts of electricity. Thanks to this opening, there will be 1.800 direct jobs and 1,500 indirect beneficiaries.

The Mayor of Port au Prince is dismissed and that's it !
The President Michel Martelly said on Monday that the decision to refer the municipal team of Port-au-Prince will be executed independently of the will of the mayor revoked, to remain at his post. Responding to a question from a reporter the Head of State said that this decision will be respected, stating that it is the government who has revoked stressing that "when the State dismissal from office an individual, he does it and that's it, the rest may be misunderstanding."

The Minister of the Interior has met the Presidents of CASEC
Me Thierry Mayard-Paul, the Minister of Interior and Territorial Communities, met last week the Presidents of Boards of Communal Sections (CASEC) of ten departments. This meeting was an opportunity for the Minister to plan the sectoral and departmental meetings as part of needs of each department and of their municipalities. He reported that representatives of different municipalities in the country have already submitted the operating budget for these initiatives. It is now necessary for the Ministry of Interior to take the necessary measures and to follow up, what will be done in a very short time, assured the Minister.

Life expectancy of Haitian citizens has been on the increase, and so has the need to provide assistance and services to the elderly. This need is well understood by the First Lady of the Republic of Haïti, Madame Sophia Martelly, who is working tirelessly to meet the needs of elderly care in Haïti. It is in this spirit that the Consul General of the Republic of Haïti in New York, Mr. Charles Antoine Forbin, is in Haïti to accompany members of the Wayúu Tayá Foundation. This non-profit organization will undertake a fact-finding mission with a view to establishing one Assisted living Residence in Port-au-Prince and one in Jacmel. The mission will also study the possibility of creating a youth orchestra. The Wayúu Tayá Foundation has already proven itself in Latin America, Venezuela and Colombia.

The European Development Commissioner Andris Piebalgs urged the Haitian leaders to avoid another political crisis "Haiti can not afford another prolonged political crisis, because Haiti risk simply to dissapear of the big radar of international cooperation, if the political classes do not find the necessary cohesion to start to rebuild [...] a political compromise is necessary to restore a cooperative agreement between the legislative and executive power [...] this is the crucial condition to give a new impetus to reconstruction process of this country."
