Sunday, on the occasion of the World Day of Press Freedom, the President Martelly declared "Freedom of expression is undoubtedly one of the most important achievements of the Haitian people in their struggle for democracy. Freedom of the press is a democratic achievement that we guarantee in the transparency and respect for individual rights. Under my administration, the Haitian press has been able to exercise freely their duty to inform without constraints, threats and censorship.

I will continue to ensure that journalists can exercise their profession within the framework prescribed by Haitian law. I encourage journalists to exercise wisdom, intellectual probity and ethical conduct that governs their trades. The press is part of the change and is an important link in the development of the country."
