iciHaiti - Economy : The diaspora sent nearly $2 billion in Haiti (2014)
According to the latest report from the Multilateral Investment Fund of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) released this week, the Haitian diaspora sent to Haiti (2014) 1 billion 923 million dollar in transfers.
Remittances are an important source of income for the Haitian families and almost 20% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Haiti. The Haitian diaspora in the United States, remain the main source of remittances to Haiti.
Note that in 2014, the Dominican diaspora has transferred $4.5 billion to their families (less than 7% of Dominican GDP).
