iciHaiti - Social : Registration to PNRE, high tension among Haitians

Wednesday, Washington González, Vice Minister of the Interior and Police of the Dominican Republic revealed that almost 240,000 foreigners have registered at the National Plan for the Regularization of Foreigners (PNRE), which ends on 17 June 7:00 pm. A number that has surpassed the 210,000 persons initially anticipated.

In the vicinity of the headquarters of the Ministry of Interior and police, located in the building of government offices of Juan Pablo Duarte, better known as "El Huacal" it's a real rush, our compatriots seems to have waited until the last minute to attempt to register. In centers that are located in the Greater Santo Domingo the number of applicants more than doubled.

Tensions are high, Haitians finding that things are not going fast enough, do not hesitate to force the gates of the offices as it happened in San Pedro de Marcori (see video). Other office of the PNRE indicate us that some of our compatriots remain day and night outside the offices, sleeping on cardboard boxes on the pavement to keep their place...

Gonzalez explained that after June 17, all those who will be registered, to whom documents are missing should not worry, they have 45 days to complete the process. By cons, he said that all foreigners in irregular migratory situation, not registered in PNRE will be liable to expulsion from Dominican territory, in compliance with human rights and the agreements signed by the Dominican Republic.
