iciHaiti - Security : 9 police officers trained in Quebec on gender violence

Friday, 9 police officers from the National Police of Haiti have received their training certificate on investigations of sexual assault, at the Training Centre of the Police Service of the City of Quebec (Canada). These Haitian police officers spent the week in Quebec to receive training funded by the Norwegian government.

Ms. Manouchka Rémy, inspector at the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police of Haiti, and Ms. Josée Gagné, Corporal of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Canadan (RCMP) and Petter Sandell, Norwegian Superintendent, in the UN mission were present at this ceremony.

In her speech Manouchka Rémy declared "My team has learned a lot about how to interrogate suspects. For us this is done differently [...] People are afraid to come to the police station to denounce sexual abuse. Together with Norway and Canada, with the introduction of this section, the population now come to the police station," adding "I hope that this training will allow us to work more professionally."
