iciHaiti - Environment : The population of Anse-à-Pitre, denounces the municipal authorities
The residents of Anse-à-Pitre (Southeast of Haiti) denounced the decision of Michel-Ange Morlan, the municipal interim executive agent, of having entrusted to a Dominican entrepreneur a quarry on the littoral of La Saline. According to them, this exploitation would be done without the approval of the Ministry of the Environment to whom they ask to intervene to stop the environmental damage.

Michel-Ange Morlan confirmed that the operation of the quarry has been entrusted to a Dominican entrepreneur, without giving the identity and refusing to say the economic benefits for its administration in term of income. He explained that the Haitian workers, who work at the quarry, earn 10 gourdes each 5 gallon bucket filled. An activity that, accoring to him contributes to discourage its citizens to seek work in neighboring Republic and remain working in Haiti.
