On Monday, at a press conference, Ms. Shirley Augustin, General Coordinator of the National Observatory of Poverty and Social Exclusion (ONPES) explained the mission of the institution, that was to monitor poverty and to make suggestions to improve the situation of the society and stressed that ONPES faced a lack of information in the field, including data on poverty often wrong.

She revealed that "from 2001 to 2012, poverty fell by 7% and that it was found that more a family had children, the more it was poor, a poverty that is found at 80% in rural areas, where families are often numerous [...]"

Speaking about the poverty map of Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-14577-haiti-social-towards-a-new-poverty-map-and-of-potentialities-of-haiti.html she informed that it is based on the basic needs of the population: education, water, health and will be updated in 2015 thanks to 10 million gourdes (60% of Treasury, 40% EU), which been allocated for the pilot operation.
