iciHaiti - Security : More than 600 Haitians have fled Hatillo Palma

Following the assault and rape last Wednesday, of a Dominican woman in the municipal district of Hatillo Palma, municipality of Villa Vasquez by 3 unidentified Haitian nationals (according to the victim) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-14895-haiti-social-dominicans-expel-haitians-living-in-hatillo-palma.html some Dominican residents crying for vengeance, went after our compatriots: destruction of property and houses; brutality; burning a pension where lived at least 25 Haitian families; discovery of a dead body of one of our compatriots, Willin Yrak (about 25 years) killed by a machete by one or unidentified individuals...

In this tense atmosphere of hatred and violence, more than 600 Haitians have fled (or have been expelled) from the area where they lived and worked, fearing for their lives and that of their families according to Raynold Jumea, Secretary General of the Centre for rights of Haitians in the Northwest.

Faced with such violence, the Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito, in a statement expressed his deep sadness and worries, "We have ordered investigations into these unfortunate events that occurred in recent days in Hatillo Palma, to clarify what is arrived and to determine the responsibilities of those who violated the law," recalling that no Dominican has the right of doing justice itself and that all those who have broken the law or encouraged to breaching it, will be brought to justice and receive exemplary punishment.

According to a police source, at least 6 people were detained for questioning in connection with the investigation into the murder of our compatriot.
