As part of the World Food Day, Mrs. Adama Diop-Faye, Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) in Haiti, was alarmed at the situation of food insecurity in Haiti caused by the drought.

"In Haiti, it is imperative that everyone be engaged in our efforts to fight against hunger as the country faces a severe drought which caused a sharp drop in harvests of up to 50% and higher prices," highlighting that because of the drought in the number of Haitian food insecurity is increasing and could reach up to 3.7 million people in March 2016.

Consequently, she said the WFP plans to start emergency distributions from next week to bring staples like rice, pulses, oil, sugar and salt to 120,000 people.
