Monday on the sidelines of a press conference, Marc Wilkens, spokesman of the General Inspectorate of the National Police of Haiti (IGPNH) informed that following numerous complaints of police brutality, brought against the Brigade of Departmental Operations and Interventions (BOID), this special unit, whose many members have been called to order, will no longer participate in the supervision of demonstrations.

While acknowledging that the police institution is also a repressive force, he stressed that the use of force should be used only when absolutely necessary, calling the police on the ground to avoid responding to provocations from protesters and to show restraint and professionalism.
