iciHaiti - Economy : 238 young professionals entering the job market
Since 2013, Mercy Corps organization ensures the implementation of LAMIKA economic development sub-program in the 8 neighborhoods of Carrefour-Feuilles. Mercy Corps has initiated a component of activities specifically dedicated to the professional integration of young people for the most coming from disadvantaged backgrounds, fully funded by the American Red Cross. A budget of $500,000 has been allocated to activities aimed at young people from 18-35 years without access to vocational or university education for lack of financial means.

Based on a study of the labor market conducted with youth from Carrefour-Feuilles, after the development of individualized career plans, Mercy Corps, placed 271 young in 16 technical fields, distributed in 6 recognized training centers in the metropolitan area. Among these sectors : bar & restaurant management, plumbing, mechanical car, driving heavy equipment, CISCO / Computer networks, built-buildings, air conditioning & refrigeration, cosmetology and others.

In addition to these professional training center, Mercy Corps has accompanied these young people by a placement in internship in a company, a personalized monitoring in order to complete their learning cycle and help them in their "become" professional. At the end of this program, 238 out of 276 young people have validated their training and obtained a Diplomas of Attestation of Professional Competence (AAP), recognized by the National Institute of Professional Training (INFP). Some of them have already gained employment in companies in the metropolitan area.

Mercy Corps is aware that this is a first step and in the coming months, the organization wishes to continue its efforts, both in terms of professional integration as job creation for young people of Carrefour-Feuilles.
