Over the last two centuries no less than five tsunamis, following following earthquakes, hit the Haitian coast. 1770 : Archaie, Port-au-Prince, Grand-Goâve, Cayes, Croix-des-Bouquets ; 1842 : Cap-Haïtien, Môle-Saint-Nicolas, Port-de-Paix, Fort Liberté ; 1860 : Anse-à-Veau, Golfe de La Gonâve, Cayes, Vieux Bourg d’Aquin ; 1887 : Môle-Saint-Nicolas, Jérémie, Anse d’Ainault, Golfe de la Gonâve et 2010 : Petit Paradis in Petit-Goâve.
