230 agents of the Haitian National Police (PNH) supported by 71 peacekeepers of police and military forces of the Minustah conducted last week a major operation in Bellecourt, an area of Cité Soleil, which was primarily aimed at reducing the nuisance capacity of the Gang of Bellecourt, terrorizing the population and prevent disorders in this election period.

According to the Commissioner Casséus Joël in charge of the police station of Cité Soleil, the Gang is growing day by day by recruiting new elements. Several people have been arrested and some released after identity checks. After two hours of operation, 24 people were taken into custody for questioning by the police and transferred to the courts or released.

The transaction also enabled the police to find out more about the operating mode of this Gang in order to control its criminal activities.
