iciHaiti - Justice : Closing of the Human Rights Council in Geneva
Thursday at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, the Human Rights Council concluded the work of its 31st Ordinary Session, which opened on February 29 and after which, it adopted thirty-seven resolutions and two decisions and a presidential statement. 12 of these documents were the object of votes.

Chaired by Ambassador Choi Kyong-lim of the Republic of South Korea, the session was opened by the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr. Zeid Ra'ad Al-Hussein, who presented an overview of the situation of human rights in the world, stressing that the suffering of migrants fleeing are staggering and should arouse the compassion of the international community.

Through a presidential statement, the Council endorsed the request of the Haitian authorities to renew for one year the mandate of the Independent Expert on the situation of human rights in Haiti, Gustavo Gallón, which is part of technical assistance and capacity building. The Council invited the independent expert to undertake a mission to Haiti and to report to the Council in March 2017.
