iciHaiti - Commerce : Towards the implementation of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement

Following the conclusion of negotiations relating to the Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) by members of the WTO in December 2013, at the 9th Ministerial Conference in Bali, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI), organizes on April 11-12 at the hotel Montana, a national workshop on the implementation of the TFA of the World Trade Organization (WTO). This workshop aims to categorize commitments under the TFA proposed by the Republic of Haiti for its notification to the WTO.

The launch of this important workshop for the economic development of Haiti, will be held in the presence of Jessy C. Petit-frère, Minister of Commerce and Industry (or a representative).

Recall that upon entry into force, the TFA creates obligations that force WTO members to improve their procedures, their customs transparency and efficiency, as well as cooperation between border control agencies and the private sector.

Developing countries and LDCs will have to classify themselves, individually, the provisions of the agreement in categories A (implemented upon entry into force) B (deferred implementation) or C (implementation in connection with the acquisition of capabilities through assistance and support). They must also choose their implementation date.
