iciHaiti - Security : Increase in complaints against police officers 02/06/2016 09:40:40
Marc-Wilckens Jean, the Spokesperson of the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPNH) revealed in a balance-conference, that during the month of May, at least 40 police officers had been sanctioned for various offenses (drug trafficking, assaults, beatings and injuries, homicides, threats, insubordination, loss of arms, document retention, family conflicts, abandonment of post, etc...) and 5 officers were placed under pending dismissal accused according to the case of drug trafficking, abandonment of post and homicide... He also indicated that 81 complaints were filed against police officers including 68 by the victims concerned among other for retention of documents, threats, physical assaults, breach of trust, denial of care. Other complaints concern in particular cases of persecution, rape, denial of loss weapon, corruption, abuse of authority and assassination attempted... The month of May has the largest number of complaints since the beginning of the year against police officers (78) against 54 in April, 43 in March, 36 in February and 53 in January. PI/ iciHaiti
