On the sidelines of the World Refugee Day, celebrated on June 20, the Ambassador of Haiti in Mexico, Guy Lamothe thanked in a note the Mexican Government for the support to its nationals "[...] Especially those who have been received after the devastating earthquake of 12 January 2010. In fact, more than a thousand Haitian compatriots, students, schoolchildren, workers, families received the support of Mexico through support and integration programs [...] contributing significantly to the economic, social and cultural life of their host country." Hoping that the efforts of dialogue, consultation and ongoing cooperation between the governments of Mexico and Haiti, continue to strengthen.

Furthermore, the Embassy of Haiti welcomed the perseverance, strength and courage of the millions of men and women around the world, who have left their countries with the hope of a better life, recalling that " Long before the international Convention on the protection of refugees, Haiti has always offered his land as a refuge for people seeking freedom, regardless of their color and their political or religious affiliation."
