Late Monday afternoon, at the border of Malpasse, a truck filled with contraband attempted to escape the control of customs officers, who had to open fire on the truck that was trying to pass in force. Injured, the driver stopped his vehicle and surrendered without resistance to customs officials. A shooting that caused some panic among the local population.
Tuesday Victor Saint-Louis, Director General of the General Administration of Customs (AGD), confirmed the incident, saying it was smugglers attempting to import certain products prohibited by road, noting that such attempts are common in border areas, ensuring that the anti-smuggling brigade does not drop its guard.
