iciHaiti - Diaspora : A Haitian wins the Women of Distinction Award

The Montreal Women's Y Foundation announces that Déborah Cherenfant, of Haitian origin, Creator of the blog,

Mots d’Elles, Founder and Manager of Coloré Design, and designer of Marché Coloré, won this year the Women of Distinction Award in the category Entrepreneurship.

The Women of Distinction Awards will be presented to the laureates at the Théâtre Saint-James in Montréal on September 27, 2016.

Learn more about Déborah Cherenfant :

Déborah Cherenfant immigrated from Haiti to Quebec in 2005 to continue her studies at HEC Montreal and follow her two passions, entrepreneurship and fashion.

In 2011, she created "Mots d’Elles" a blog to showcase women in business, which quickly became an inspiration for many. Even today, this platform, which won several awards including the Best business Blog in Canada, draws portraits of women in business.

To give back to the community, in a society where immigrant women are underrepresented, Déborah Cherenfant launch in 2012 her own business in fashion accessories design and decoration "Coloré Design" that only hiring immigrant women and produces locally .

In 2015, "Coloré Design" organizes the market Coloré, a new store concept brings together designer pieces, sharing the passion of motifs, textiles and colors.

In a perspective of action of women's empowerment, Déborah Cherenfant bet on the forthcoming creation of a production workshop that would promote leadership and the employment of women in vocational rehabilitation, currently living in precarious conditions.
