This Sunday 9 October the Consulate General of the Republic of Haiti in New York invites all members of the Haitian community and friends of Haiti to celebrate the New York City Haitian Day at the Brooklyn Museum. This date was chosen in commemoration of October 9, 1779, the day of the Savannah battle in which the volunteers "chasseurs" of Santo Domingo later became Haiti, had fought the British army alongside the Americans https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-18801-haiti-diaspora-prelude-to-the-commemoration-of-the-237-years-of-the-battle-of-savannah.html

This celebration was preceded on Saturday at noon, by the rise of the Haitian flag at the Bowling Green Charging Bull’s Triangle.

This Sunday marks the first celebration of this historic New York City Haitian Day which was established June 24, 2016 by a resolution sponsored by Council Members of the Brooklyn Municipality to pay tribute to the contribution of the Haitian diaspora to the New York City.

Dr. Mathieu Eugène, a member of the Board and author of the resolution is proud to invite all his compatriots and friends of Haiti to join him in this great day.
