Ambassador Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Haiti to the Organization of American States (OAS), following the passage of Hurricane Matthew on 3 and 4 October 2016, set up an emergency unit, to monitor the status of the situation in Haiti, assess needs and to accompany the actions of governmental authorities.

To this end, a meeting of the various OAS bodies was held under the chairmanship of Ambassador Nestor Mendez, Assistant Secretary General of the hemispheric Organization, The Ambassador Jean-Baptiste took the opportunity to share the first elements of information from Haitian official sources and request mobilization and contribution of the region as part of the passage of the powerful hurricane.

The Haitian Ambassador expressed the hope that the actions of institutions and other international organizations, use official channels to the Government of Haiti.
