Haiti - Culture : Vernissage of the exhibition on Haitian devotional costumes

Tuesday, at the Ethnographic Museum of the National Office of Ethnology (BNE) in Port-au-Prince, the opening of the exhibition "Devotional costumes, for an anthropology of clothing in Haiti" was held.

This exhibition want to be a new look at devotional clothing, its role and its message, because at home, like said Savary "From custom to costume, there is only one cilting, one step of the individual to mark his belonging to a country, a group, a guiding thought, an entity. From the roucou used by the aborigines of Ayiti to dress in color to the devotional costumes worn by the tchovi on the roads of Haiti, the appearance goes beyond the show and takes another form of importance, that of the service of a lwa vodou."

This exhibition will be open to the public throughout the month of December 2016.

Welcome !
