The European Union takes note of the publication by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) of the preliminary results https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-19370-haiti-flash-preliminary-results-1st-round-elections-20-november-2016.html pf the first round of the presidential elections in Haiti, which put the candidate of the PHTK Jovenel Moïse well ahead with the majority of votes (595,430 votes 55.67%), the candidate of the party LAPEH Jude Célestin in second (208,837 votes 19.52%), the candidate of the party Pitit Dessalines Jean-Charles Moïse in third (118,142 votes 11.04%) and the candidate of the party Fanmi Lavalas Maryse Narcisse in fourth (96,121 votes 8.99%).

The European Union congratulates the CEP, which has been able to conduct the electoral process with determination and impartiality in accordance with the established timetable and despite the impact of the natural disaster that has plagued the country. It also appreciates the efforts of Provisional President Jocelerme Privert, the Haitian Government and the Haitian National Police (PNH) to ensure that the process continues in the serenity and respect of the rights of voters.

Any expression of opinion in this context must be peaceful and respect the law; the possible contestations of these results must be made by following the legal route, outlined by the electoral decree.
