Haiti - Trade : Border closed to Ouanaminthe in retaliation

Friday, a confused and tense situation prevailed at the Haitian border at Ouanaminthe where the gates were closed preventing the entry of hundreds of Haitian traders and buyers on the border market of Dajabon.

According to the information available, this closure would have been taken in retaliation for the blockage by the Dominican authorities at the Port of Caucedo of some forty containers of sugar in transit to Haiti belonging to a Haitian businessman, without one knowing with certainty for what reason.

According to trade unionist Lumax Pierre from Ounaminthe, as long as a solution to these containers has not been found, the binational border market on Monday and Friday will continue to be paralyzed.

According to Haitian traders, there are hidden hands who want to keep these containers and they demand an investigation by the Attorney General of the Dominican Republic, Jean Rodriguez so that the situation is clarified.
