iciHaiti - AFD : Did you know ?
The Agence Française de Développement (AFD) is celebrating its 40 years in Haiti, during which it mobilized nearly 400 million euros. AFD-funded projects now focus on four main areas : education and vocational training, health, urban planning, environment and rural development.

AFD is committed to Haitian administrations with technical assistance programs and to strengthen the governance of public services. The Agency also supports numerous initiatives carried out by civil society organizations (NGOs). Finally, the AFD group is involved in the development of the Haitian private sector, thanks to its subsidiary Proparco and its dedicated guarantee tool ARIZ.

To date, AFD is financing 14 projects worth € 150 million, of which € 55 million remains to be disbursed by the Haitian authorities. This portfolio of ongoing projects includes three earthquake response projects (€ 76 million in total): the rehabilitation of Haiti's State University Hospital (also co-financed by Haiti and American cooperation), the development of two precarious neighborhoods in Port-au-Prince and an agricultural food security project in the South (both with the support of the European Union).

For the future, an 8-million-euro project to improve the quality of education must be approved by AFD authorities this month. About 10 million more are planned for 2017 as well as the mobilization of additional funds from the European Union and the Green Fund.
