The Secretary General of La Francophonie, Michaëlle Jean, welcomes the announcement of the final results of the Haitian presidential election. The outcome of this long and difficult electoral process marks an important step in the complete restoration in 2017 of democratic institutions and constitutional order in Haiti.

"I congratulate the Haitian government authorities, and especially the Provisional Electoral Council, for having ensured the smooth running of this long-awaited electoral rendezvous. I also wish to pay tribute to all the Haitian National Police staff for their republican commitment; With the assistance of the Minustah, they enabled the Haitian people to fulfill their duty as citizens in a particularly delicate context. Finally, I would like to pay tribute to the determination of Provisional President Jocelerme Privert in the conduct of this election," declared Michaëlle Jean.

In view of the many challenges that face the Haitian Nation, the Francophone family renews its strong support and commitment to accompany all the political, institutional and civil society actors in their joint efforts for the completion within the prescribed deadlines of the remaining elections.
