iciHaiti - Agriculture : The agricultural sector does not take off

The Haitian Institute of Statistics and Informatics (IHSI), reports for the fiscal year 2015-2016, a growth of 3% of the agricultural sector in Haiti. However, while agriculture, forestry, livestock and fisheries of 3% from 3,131 million gourdes in 2015 to 3,226 million gourdes in 2016, it should be kept in mind that the agricultural sector in the previous financial year 2014-2015 had decreased by -5.4%.

Despite this slight improvement, however, the agricultural sector still has a growth deficit of 2.4%, implying a growth rate of at least 5.5% for the year 2016-2017 to stabilize the situation and more to show positive real growth in this sector.

The new Government will therefore have to put in placepublic policies allowing the growth of agricultural production in Haiti and thinking much more about the transformation, to the agribusiness generating jobs for a better growth of the economy of the agricultural sector which represents more than 20% of the GDP...
