Following the surprise announcement by President-elect Jovenel Moïse of the holding of the National Carnival in the city of Les Cayes on February 26th, 27th and 28th https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-19883-haiti-culture-the-2017-national-carnival-will-take-place-in-the-city-of-les-cayes.html , while Port-au-Prince also prepares its Carnival on the same dates; the Mayor of the Capital Youri Chevry wanted to made it clear that it had no conflict between him and the President-elect, contrary to what some rumors suggest.

Mayor Chevry said that he had spoken to Jovenel Moïse by telephone and that there was "no problem" and that he is continuing the preparations for his carnival in Port-au-Prince "I said to the President that I do my Carnival in Port-au-Prince to preserve the tradition. He told me he has no problem with that [...]"

The Mayor also said that he also discussed the financing of the Carnival of Port-au-Prince with the President-elect "I think there will be an envelope for Port-au-Prince. I told him that I wanted that the State support the Carnival of Port-au-Prince, as it supports all the other cities of the country."
