Located in the Laprente section of the Commune of Torbeck (South), the Citadel is located on the heights of the Platons in front of Macaya. This Military post of the district of Les Cayes, was built in 1804 by the general of division Nicolas Geffrard, according to the plan of the engineer of fortification Morancy.

Placed at about 600 meters above sea level, the Citadel dominates the plain of Les Cayes, and the plain of the Orangers, between Saint Louis and Cavaillon. To the south-east of the entrance there is the tomb of General Nicolas Geffrard where he was buried on May 31, 1806.

This Citadel is charged with a heroic history; indeed, in 1792, the slaves of the Platons mountains had risen to support the rights of colored men, winning illustrious battles. This insurrection put under pressure the whites of Les Cayes by its continual alarms...
