iciHaiti - FLASH : Blockage of Petit-Goâve, truce possible under condition...

Monday in the middle of the day the town of Petit-Goâve was paralyzed.... Following the strike of the teachers which lasts for more than a month https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-20119-icihaiti-petit-goave-teachers-on-strike-high-school-students-on-the-street-since-over-one-month.html the high school students demonstrated for the resumption of the courses while the population demanded the return of the electricity.

The inhabitants of La Digue prevented the inauguration of the new bridge. Barricades were visible on National Road #2 nd on La Hatte Avenue. The police had to use tear gas to disperse protesters and restore order. All schools have released their pupils. Eventually the power was restored at about 7:00 p.m.

For their part, strike teachers are open to dialogue and ready to observe a possible truce if a presidential delegation comes to discuss with them the solutions to be given to the various problems including the payment of wage arrears.

"We would like the State to tell us clearly how long it will meet all of our demands... What we need from the State, it is the guarantee that it will scrupulously respect its commitment and the new deadline before the temporary lifting of the strike. We are awaiting the Presidency's response," declared at a press conference, the 3 spokespersons of the striking teachers : Wilson Lemaine, Anders Duval and Mardoché Michel.
