iciHaiti - Social : GAAR advocates for the elimination of racial discrimination in DR

As part of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, on 21 March, the Group for the Support of Returnees and Refugees (GARR) invited the Dominican authorities, as a signatory State and a party to the International Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Racial Discrimination since 1983 to fight against racism plaguing their country.

The GARR regrets that 34 years after the entry into force of this Convention in the Dominican Republic, Haitian migrants and Dominicans of foreign descent continue to be victims of racism and discrimination in neighboring territory.

While calling for respect for the rights of Dominicans of Haitian descent who are victims of the sentence of 23 September 2013 (Judgment TC 168/13), the GARR urges the Dominican authorities to work to ensure that Haitian migrants can benefit from better treatment.
