iciHaiti - Agriculture : Donation of 25 tons of seed

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Chancellery of Argentina donated 25 tons of vegetable and cereal seeds to the Government of Haiti to revitalize family farming and combat food insecurity in the Great South, West, Northwest and Artibonite.
These 25 tons of seed, divided into more than 200,000 kits, each containing 17 varieties of seed, are estimated at nearly US $1.2 million.
According to Carmel André Béliard, Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Developme, as of Wednesday, more than 40,000 peasant families in the departments of the South, Nippes and Grand'Anse will receive a kit of seeds that will enable them to plant a vegetable garden and to face the scarcity of food products over the next six months.
