iciHaiti - Economy : End of the ECOSOC mission

The United Nations Economic and Social Council Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Haiti (ECOSOC- AHAG) concluded a successful three-day official visit to Haiti after completing a robust series of meetings and site visits with Haitian authorities, civil-society representatives, private sector, UN entities, the donor community and other development actors. The Advisory Group is grateful to all interlocutors met for their generous time to engage with the group.

Members of the ECOSOC Group on Haiti who took part in the visit are Canada (Chair), Argentina, Belize, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, France, Haiti, Mexico, Peru, Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay and the USA.

The aim of the ECOSOC-AHAG visit was to assess the socio-economic situation in Haiti and make recommendations on its long-term development. The Chair of the ECOSOC-AHAG, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Canada to the United Nations, H.E. Mr. Marc-André Blanchard, noted that Haiti is at an important moment for its development following the completion of the successful electoral process and emphasized that the group’s visit reaffirms "the enthusiastic and generous engagement of the international community in Haiti’s development".

The Ad Hoc Advisory Group will submit its full recommendations to ECOSOC at its Coordination and Management Meeting in July 2017.
