Haiti - Post Matthew : Construction of 27 houses for people with disabilities
As part of a relocation project for disabled people and their families, whose home had been destroyed during Hurricane Matthew last October, the Office of the Secretary of State for the Integration of Persons Handicapped (BSEIPH), "Food for the Poor" and "Haiti Children", 27 houses will be built in the department of the South.
10 families of disabled people have already been relocated to their new home, while 13 new projects have recently been opened, Secretary of State Gérald Oriol Jr. said.
These homes, based on a sustainable development approach, considerably improve the standard of living of the beneficiary families. This response by the BSEIPH is a concrete action to protect the most vulnerable people during natural disasters and strengthens the right of ownership of people with disabilities and the right to found and live as a family; The rights guaranteed by the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Act of 13 March 2012 on the integration of persons with disabilities.
