The Montfort Institute, which specializes in the teaching of deaf children, celebrated its 60th anniversary this year. Founded in 1957 by the Congregation of the Daughters of Wisdom, the Montfort Institute, it's today three establishments in three major cities of the country: Montfort Institute in Port-au-Prince, Montfort Institute in St Marc since 1985 and Marie Louise Institute in Cap Haitien since 1983. One of the objectives of this school is to make children living with a hearing handicap, often marginalized in this country, citizens accomplished and useful to our society.

The Montfort Institute offers specialized and quality training. Teachers use modular learning methods based on the child's disability. On-site, an assessment of the impairment is made to determine the methods to be followed for each child.

The Institute's premises at Croix-des-Bouquets have 38 classrooms and a dormitory for children and other related compartments in order to better serve them. 8 students will participate this year in the final exams, hoping that university institutions will be open to receive them.
