iciHaiti - Security : Capacity building of the Risk Management Directorates

Friday at the Hotel Montana, Dr. Jerry Chandler, the Director of Civil Protection (DPC), took part in a workshop on the Capacity Building Project of the Departmental Risk Management Directorates, which comes to term, after 3 years of operation.

This workshop was jointly conducted by the DPC and the Catholic Relief Services (CRS), which was intended to the Departmental Risk Management Coordinators of the departments of North, North-West, South-East, Grand Anse and South, the main beneficiaries, made it possible to make a technical assessment of the actions carried out in the framework of this project, supported by DPC, financially supported by major donors such as CRS, OFDA (Foreign Disaster Assistance USA) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

It should be recalled that this project, initiated in 2013, made it possible to make available to the DPC and according to its needs material, logistical and financial resources to ensure inter alia the training of field staff, simulation exercises, monthly coordination meetings in Risk Management, regular review of contingency plans, community awareness of disaster risks, implementation of mitigation projects, strengthening of the chain command and better management of the Departmental Emergency Operations Centers (COUD).

In his speech, Dr Chandler invited all actors to capitalize on the lessons and achievements of this project and to consider the establishment of structures to materialize the efforts already made with the aim of protecting lives and preserving communities in emergency situations.
