iciHaiti - Health : Launch of the project «Ranfòse Abitid Nitrisyon pou Fè Ogmante Sante»
Friday, July 21 at the Hotel Montana, will be held the launch ceremony of the project « Ranfòse Abitid Nitrisyon pou Fè Ogmante Sante » (RANFOSE), of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

This project will address the problems of micronutrient deficiencies by helping to strengthen staple foods in Haiti. A study funded by the Canadian Embassy and conducted by the Copenhagen Consensus Center recently showed that food fortification is one of the most effective interventions to improve Haiti's development.

The RANFOSE project is expected to increase and make available high-quality fortified feedstuffs throughout the country by strengthening local production and importing fortified foods. It will concentrate on fortification of wheat flour with iron and folic acid, vegetable oils with vitamin A and salt with iodine.

The project will also have a public awareness component on the importance of consuming fortified foods. RANFOSE will contribute directly to the efforts of the Haitian government to improve the nutrition, health and food security of the population, according to its Nutrition Strategic Plan 2013-2018.
