Earlier this week, commercial activities were paralyzed at the binational border market of Carisal/Elias Piña (Centre), of Haitian traders were discontented about the abusive behavior of some Dominican military. The protestors erected barricades with large stones on the main road of Belladère leading to the market and with inflamed tires on the secondary roads.

They threw stones and bottles towards the drivers and other users of this border crossing who wanted to overlook the barricades in order to get to the market. Dominican and Haitian truckers were forced to turn back for fear of being victims of violence of the protesters...

On Wednesday, commercial activities were still paralyzed despite a meeting lasting more than an hour at the border between the Haitian and Dominican authorities and representatives of the traders of the two countries. No solution has been found and a new meeting is scheduled but no date has been set.
