Haiti - Security : Haiti voted the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons

On 7 July, at the initiative of Austria, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, Sweden, Ireland and New Zealand, 122 countries adopted the text of the United Nations Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, including Haiti.

These countries understood the humanitarian sense of the initiative and participated actively in the negotiating conference with a constructive spirit and of responsibility in order to fill an unacceptable legal vacuum in the field of disarmament.

However, none of the 6 countries declared nuclear weapons holders: the United States, Russia, France, the United Kingdom, China and India, to which are added the undeclared states : Pakistan, Israel and North Korea signed this treaty giving them by their absences, a purely symbolic scope, since this treaty applies only to the signatory countries and will not eliminate the arsenal of mass destruction of some 15,000 nuclear warheads that threatens our civilization.
